Terms of Service
Last updated: April 2, 2026
Agreement
By using Shelf ("we", "us", or "our"), you agree to these Terms of Service. If you do not agree, do not use Shelf. These terms apply to the web app at get-shelf.com, the mobile apps, and the browser extension.
What Shelf Does
Shelf is a read-it-later service. You provide URLs; we fetch the article, clean it up, and save it to your connected Google Drive as a Markdown file. We store metadata (title, URL, tags, read status) in our database. We do not store article content on our servers.
Your Account
You must create an account to use Shelf. You are responsible for keeping your credentials secure. You must be at least 13 years old to use Shelf. One person may not maintain multiple accounts to circumvent usage limits.
Acceptable Use
You agree not to:
- Use Shelf for any illegal purpose or in violation of any laws
- Attempt to scrape, reverse-engineer, or abuse the Shelf API
- Use Shelf to ingest or distribute content you do not have the right to access
- Interfere with or disrupt the service or servers
- Attempt to gain unauthorised access to any accounts or systems
- Share content via public collections that infringes on copyright or is otherwise illegal
Shelf is a personal read-it-later tool. Automated bulk ingestion is not a supported use case and may result in account suspension.
Google Drive Integration
To save articles, you connect your Google account. We request only the drive.file scope, which limits our access to files that Shelf creates. You can revoke this access at any time via Google's account permissions page. Revoking access will prevent Shelf from saving new articles and reading existing ones until you reconnect.
You are responsible for your Google Drive content and account. Shelf is not responsible for loss of Drive files caused by actions you take in Google Drive directly.
Collections and Sharing
You can create collections of articles and share them publicly (via link) or with specific people (by email invite). By making a collection public or sharing it, you grant the recipients the ability to view the article titles, URLs, and metadata in that collection. You are responsible for what you choose to share.
Intellectual Property
Shelf does not claim ownership of articles you save. You are responsible for ensuring you have the right to save and read the content you ingest. Articles are saved for your personal reading; redistribution is your responsibility.
The Shelf name, logo, and application code are our intellectual property. You may not copy or distribute them without permission.
Service Availability
We aim to keep Shelf running but cannot guarantee uptime. The service is provided as-is. We may modify, suspend, or discontinue features at any time with reasonable notice where possible.
Disclaimer of Warranties
Shelf is provided "as is" without warranty of any kind, express or implied. We make no warranties that the service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that article content will be faithfully extracted from every source. Some sites actively block content extraction.
Limitation of Liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, Shelf and its operators shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages arising from your use of the service, including but not limited to loss of data, loss of access to your Drive, or inability to access saved articles.
Account Termination
You may delete your account at any time. We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms. On termination, your metadata is deleted from our servers. Files in your Google Drive remain — they are yours.
Changes to These Terms
We may update these terms from time to time. We will update the "Last updated" date above. Continued use after changes constitutes acceptance. If the changes are material, we'll make a reasonable effort to notify you.
Governing Law
These terms are governed by the laws of the jurisdiction in which the operator is based, without regard to conflict of law principles.
